The distinction matters. Reasoning, in the sense that Cortex performs it, is not pattern matching, not retrieval, and not generation. It is the structured evaluation of options against explicit criteria, under conditions of uncertainty, within defined constraints. Cortex is the system that answers the question: given everything we know, what is the right course of action, and why?
Cortex operates through a structured reasoning architecture that separates the representation of a problem from the process of evaluating it. This separation produces outputs that are not only correct, but explainable: every decision Cortex produces can be traced through the reasoning steps that generated it, with each step attributable to specific inputs and criteria.
