Univers Engine™ is the 3D rendering and deployment infrastructure developed by Univers in 2021, forming the technical foundation of both the V-Commerce platform and the Studio creative division.

The challenge Engine was built to solve is not visual quality, that is a function of content creation, but deployment. The most common failure mode for web-based 3D experiences is not that they look poor, but that they load slowly, perform inconsistently across devices, and require either specialised hardware or native application installation. Engine eliminates all three constraints.

Engine renders 3D environments within standard browsers at speeds that are competitive with web page load times. It achieves this through a combination of adaptive level-of-detail rendering, progressive asset loading, and a shader architecture optimised for web GPU capabilities rather than desktop GPU capabilities. The result is a 3D environment that works on a mid-range laptop, a mobile phone, and an M3 Pro MacBook with consistent visual quality appropriate to each device.

For V-Commerce deployments, Engine is the rendering layer beneath the commerce interface, what makes products interactive, inspectable, and spatially comprehensible. For Studio productions, Engine is the rendering infrastructure for anamorphic content and scientific visualisation work where the output will be viewed in-browser, in an installation, or as a film deliverable.

Engine is proprietary to Univers and is not available as a standalone product. It is accessed through Univers Tech and Studio division engagements.
